'Malcom' watercolor on paper 9"x12" 2013 MO

One of the things that some people hate but I tend to enjoy about watercolor is it's unpredictibility. It's difficult to control. Often it requres that the painter work painstakingly slowly, waiting for layers to dry between sessions. This is one of those paintings that was built by taking advantage of the serendipity of working wet-on-wet. I think it captures the joy that can only be found in chaos and etherial moments that fly by. That gives it an energy that make other portraits seem static by contrast.
