Students will compile a portfolio of works using the principles of composition and 2D design for commercial applications; Illustration, typography, branding, iconography, product packaging, & advertising.

The five-step design process will be emphasized. Students will work on both individual and collaborative projects. Most of the class will involve traditional media like drawing, painting and collage, but students will be introduced to digital techniques; hardware and software applications

 

This course emphasize design elements and principles in the purposeful arrangement of images and text to communicate a message. They focus on creating art products such as advertisements, product designs, and identity symbols. 

 

Art students are also encouraged to take technology classes like Web Design and Digital Imaging and Yearbook, so that they can put their learning to good use.

 

 

Look forward to seeing examples of student work in a gallery as part of this portfolio next year.

Students use apps like LucidPress and are introduced to programs like Adobe InDesign for designinng layouts.  More importantly, they're taught the principles of design like emphasis, contrast, balance and eyeflow so that their layouts will be as effective as possible in delivering content to consumers.
