George Eastman once stated that he hoped to make the Kodak camera as easy to use and and common as a pencil. We now live in a time when cameras, scanners, and image editing software and apaps are just as legitimate art making tools as pencils and paint brushes. I encourage students to be contend creators, not just digital consumers.

'Buffalo Bee' 2010 MO

manipulated in Adobe Photoshop

You may have noticed four reoccurinng themes in my work; historical portraits, coffee, macro flowers, and buffalo. This image uses two of those four.

I have a cousin in Sioux Falls who has a heard of bison. It's a pleasure to get to take pictures of them. One year at the Iowa State Fair, I was shooting flowers in the garden by the Agricultural building and captured a HUGE bee on one of the blooms. It was so stocky and furry, it reminded me of a buffalo. So... eventually I combined two photos together. Perfect example for Digital Photography students when we get to the assignment on compisite imaging.
