Positive / Negative Symmetrical Designs 

Students will review the art terms of positive and negative space and will create a cut paper artwork utilizing positive and negative shapes. Using a construction paper square students will cut out varying shapes from all four sides. They will line up the positive shapes with their respective negative counterparts (the space left over from cutting out the shape) to create a visually interesting design where the two shapes align symmetrically and mirror each other. The square and all shapes will be glued down and the background could be cut as a border that outlines the cutouts.
