[About the Champion Creatively Alive Children Grant]

    This year I received a $3,000 grant to implement an Adapted Art Curriculum that I wrote and created! I am one of 20 teachers from across the country to receive the grant from the Champion Creatively Alive Children program, a collaboration of Crayola and the NAESP. My grant, titled "Access to Art with Adapted Equipment and Instruction" allows for the creation of an Adapted Art Class for students who have multiple physical challenges.

    The focus of the Adapted Art Class is to create specifically designed art projects for students who have multiple physical challenges, so that they can create artwork entirely by themselves, without having aspects of the process taken over by an aide or another adult. I will be collaborating with various special education teachers to give these students a voice that can be heard and understood through art. The grant money will be used to create an innovatively adapted art room with a high sensory component and uniquely modified equipment will be designed according to the students' needs. The students' artwork will be showcased at a art show at the end of the school year at North Side Elementary!
