Artistic mapping is a great tool for note taking. I chose to create a painter's palette in the center of my piece, from which I would branch out as I gained more information. I drew as I learned, so as I read a chapter in my course book and learned new information, I would add it around the palette. I coordinated the artist materials that come out of the palette to the materials used in art education during certain time periods. For example, the film strip comes out of the center to symbolize the time when photography became a new way to create artwork. The spiraling composition is mostly in chronological order, with a few exceptions due to the order in which I learned the information. Putting symbols in chronological order made memorization easier.
