Instructor EDUC S512/E528/Z550 Using art to deal with difficult issues in the classroom.  In this workshop, pre-service and in-service teachers will explore when and how it might be appropriate to engage K-12 students in critical examinations and explorations of traumatic personal and global events. Strategies for using the visual arts, stories, and inquiry methods to assist students in coming to terms with these experiences in ways that would contribute to intellectual and emotional growth will be explored.

University Art Museum, California State University, Long Beach

 

2014      In conjunction with the UAM show "Traditions Transfigured: The Noh Masks

              of Bidou Yamaguchi", students from 18 area middle and high schools    

              created and exhibited masks made under supervision of EDSS450A

              students.

 

Matrix Gallery - Indiana University School of Education

 

The mission of the Matrix Gallery at IU School of Education is to exhibit art and educational achievement of artists and students of Bloomington  and the surrounding Indiana Communities.  I coordinated the gallery shows for 2009-2010

 

2010      Student work - showcase of children's artwork produced during

              practicum experiences by students in Art Education II Methods class.

2010      Festival of the Arts - works from the spring art show at Fairview

              Elementary under the direction of art teacher Hannelore Meier.  This

              exhition featured the work of K-5th grade students.

2010      D(iv)ine Hearts - work of Summit Elementary art students under the

              direction of Ms. Bess Bohon-Lee.  This exhibition showcased the

              teaching of a local area art teacher and displayed the student

              outcomes.

2009      Art Explorations - work of the Saturday Art Sessions program under the

              guidance of student teachers in the Art Education program.

2009      Stone Belt Arc - work of the studio artists at Stone Belt, the largest      

              service provider for adults with developmental disabilities in southern

              Indiana.  Artwork highlighted the need for arts instruction for people of

              all abilities and disabilities.
