Ephemeral to Eternal

This is a unit I developed with the Curator at the Loyola University Museum of Art during the 2015-2016 academic calendar.

Project Summary

This project was inspired by painted photographs featured in the Loyola University Museum of Art’s exhibition William Utermohlen: A Persistence of Memory. Students in my classes were shown Utermohlen’s painted photographs and were prompted to conceptually and artistically explore the relationship between temporary and permanent imagery and analyze how different images, depending on context, relate to the concepts of memory and the eternal. In the age of Snapchat and disposable digital images, museum practices are distinct in their focus on conservation and preservation.  The completed works of art were showcased in a special exhibition at the Loyola University Art Museum.
