One of my "Go To" books for teaching art is the Art Teacher's Book of Lists by Helen Hume. I discovered it my 3rd year of teaching and it made such a difference in my life! It answered so many questions and was always handy for inspiration! I highly recommend it if you are a new teacher, and I recommend thumbing through it again if you are a seasoned teacher who is stumped!
I LOVE Dove r Publications and use their books for resources constantly. They have coloring books for just about any topic imaginable. My third graders do a Renaissance painting after the Mona Lisa and we look at Dover's Renaissance Fashions Coloring Book for fashion advice. My fourth graders study Painted Ladies a nd 19th C entury architecture with their Victorian Houses Coloring Book. Just about any masterpiece; Van gogh, Cassatt or Suerat you can find them in one of their books. They sell prints, postcards, stickers and notebooks of beautiful artwork. I order tons of stuff from them every year to give out as "prizes". The kids love it too! Dover has a huge selection of "How to Draw" books. Most of them are very simple basic-shape dra wing that is perfect for elementary age kids. I have about 25 of them that I keep in my Free-Draw/Student Area for early finishers. O ne other fantastic feature for teachers is if you sign up for the "Dover Sampler". Each Friday they will send you an email that has free downloads of coloring pages, "how-to draw" pages or other fun things! I should make a commercial!
